For high-precision applications requiring movement in one direction, a linear actuator is the best route to take. Linear actuators work by converting the rotary movement of a DC motor into precise linear movement. FAULHABER offers two types of linear actuator, available exclusively in the UK and Ireland through EMS.
FAULHABER’s L series of geared linear actuators can be operated with a range of motors. This includes brushed, brushless and stepper DC motor types. The addition of the gearhead helps to increase torque, allowing for high input speeds and output forces. As a result, the L series is ideal for a wide range of applications, including robotics, industrial machinery and laboratory equipment.
The smaller 06L, 08L and 10L actuators range from just six to ten millimetres in diameter, making them ideal for installation into very small space envelopes. Planetary gearheads and threaded lead screws with nut are included as standard. For applications requiring high forces, high load (HL) versions are available in the six- and eight-millimetre sizes.
For applications requiring even higher forces, the 22L and 32L models may be suitable. The 32L model offers a high maximum continuous axial force of up to 1920 N. Both metric thread (ML) and trapezoidal thread (TL) versions are available depending on the customer's needs. An enhanced accuracy (PB) model is also on offer, capable of movement to accuracies of up to 13 µm.
A selection of planetary gearheads is available to complement the range, with reduction ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1294:1.
FAULHABER’s direct drive linear actuators utilise linear stepper motors to provide highly precise movement at low loads. Here, the threaded lead screw is directly coupled to the output shaft of the motor.
These linear motors can function without gearheads or encoders. As a result, they offer an extremely compact motion solution that’s easy to integrate into existing systems. Potential applications range from camera lens adjustment and microscope stages to medical syringes and pumps.
Four models are available in FAULHABER's direct drive linear actuator range, with diameters ranging from just 1.2 millimetres to 3 millimetres. A wide range of lead screws are available, along with optional nuts and ball bearings to customise the performance to meet application needs.
FAULHABER presents two types of stepper motors for use in linear actuation systems. Its cost-effective AM range is suitable for most common positioning tasks. For more demanding applications, its DM stepper motor range is ideal. The DM stepper motors feature an extremely low inertia, enabling very fast acceleration to move rapidly into position.
