Handling assemblies

The EMS range of Handle Assemblies offers two types of tong barrel, the ‘standard’ type and the ‘bayonet’ type. The barrel type used will be determined by the application and both types are supplied fitted with a handle, ready to use.

The standard barrel is a lower cost part which can be used in hazardous atmosphere work. It can also be used in some low intensity toxic environments but it is recommended that any type of dangerous atmosphere work be undertaken with the bayonet type system.

The bayonet barrel has been designed to stop the internal leak path between the outer barrel body and the inner push rod. This is for heavier duty or higher intensity toxic environments.

Please note that the bayonet type tong assembly will require an Alpha adaptor to allow attachment of any tools. 

The handle, as pictured, is simple and robust in design and allows easy operation. The adjustment screw is used to set the return stroke of the inner barrel and can be used to clamp jaws closed. The Handle assemblies comprise both handle and barrel. Barrel assemblies (without handles) can also be supplied for use with extension units.

Standard Barrel

The standard barrel is available in two different diameters and in various lengths. It is of lighter duty than the bayonet type but is available in longer lengths.

NOTE: The actual length of the Barrel when in the handle assembly will be reduced by 1” as seen above. The 36” handle assembly has an operational length of 35” from the handle, and so on.

Bayonet Barrel

The bayonet barrel is available in either 1/2", 3/4” or 14mm diameters, the 3/4” diameter being for heavier duty work. The bayonet barrel offers increased protection to the operator via internal sealing against hazardous environments.
