EMS Enterprise House

Prevailing through challenging times, precision drive system supplier, Electro Mechanical Systems (EMS), has officially opened its modernised factory. The new space provides a larger and more ergonomic work area that will allow EMS to further expand its high quality precision offering.

Successful business development drove the need for more advanced facilities. EMS’s new facility, Enterprise House, is located in a private two acre site in Holton Heath, Dorset. The 40,000 square foot facility provides enhanced amenities, including an open plan area for bespoke manufacturing.

Careful consideration was taken when designing the production area. The highly connected space with thoughtful equipment placement and new data connections has created a more efficient manufacturing area that is adapted to modern manufacturing methods.

The design of the factory’s production areas maximises thermal stability to allow superior precision when manufacturing small and complex mechatronic systems. The factory also provides enhanced research and development and in-house testing facilities to deliver products that meet the precise needs of EMS’s stakeholders.

As well as delivering innovative products, EMS wanted its new facility to provide an impressive face for the business. With expanded and modernised conference facilities and an exclusive location adjacent to a nature reserve, Enterprise House offers an ideal venue for hosting existing and potential new business.

Environmental responsibility was another important consideration when designing the factory’s features, which include solar panels on the roof and electric vehicle charging points in the extended car park.

“Despite unprecedented circumstances, opening our new factory and making it fully operational remained a high priority,” said Stewart Goulding, managing director at EMS.

“Now more than ever, delivering exceptional customer service is vital, and our new facility has allowed us to streamline processes and invest in new technologies to continue delivering the highest quality products to our customers.

“We supply to many vital industries, including medical device manufacturing, the aerospace sector and factory automation. This meant that, despite 2020’s challenges, we needed to continue following our growth plan and elevate our offering”.

Goulding also explained the importance of keeping the new production site in Dorset, close to where the previous site was based. “We value our highly skilled workforce, and their retention was an important consideration in the factory move decision. That’s why we’ve remained close to our Dorset roots, while creating a new space that will encourage our business development”.

While product production remains at the heart of a manufacturing facility, EMS has demonstrated how seamlessly incorporating a number of design features can accommodate corporate, social and environmental responsibility. The new facility has allowed EMS to adapt its production strategy to meet modern customer demands, as well as future-proofing the business.
